Over time, mortar joints in castles, towers, fortifications and other historic stone buildings deteriorate through weathering, frost and age. Our heritage masons carefully rake out failed and unsuitable mortars — including cementitious repairs from earlier eras — and repoint the stonework using lime mortars matched to the original build. The result protects the fabric of the building, allows the walls to breathe, and preserves the character, strength and appearance of the original masonry for generations to come.

Assessment
A full survey of the existing stonework, mortar analysis and a written scope of works.

Careful removal
Failed and unsuitable mortar is raked out by hand to protect the arris of every stone.

Preparation
Joints are cleaned, dampened down and prepared to accept the new lime mortar.

Traditional lime mortars, matched for mix and colour, are pressed in and finished to a historically correct profile.
